Due to an ever-annoying instance by the parental units I am finally forcing myself to spend some time on an update. Thank you to all of you who are enjoying reading about my life here in Hawaii and are anxiously waiting to hear more. I do apologize that it’s taken me so long, but what was I thinking when I started this thing – that all I’d be doing here is sitting around with time to write?! Silly me. On the contrary, it’s very rare that I have time to just sit down and be still for a bit. Something I need to get better about forcing myself to do. But I am happy to report that I am fully engulfing myself in this experience and pretty much go non-stop all the time.
That being said, it has also been TOUGH. It’s been a super rough start to the school year for me and there have been times where I’ve questioned myself as a teacher. A big shoutout to my parents who listen to every single complaint, tear and insecurity and are nothing but supportive and encouraging at all times (have I ever mentioned that I have the best parents in the world?!). I also have an incredible support system from my best friends from home and the insanely cool group of friends I’ve made here – without all these people I’d let myself get bogged down and forget to live life. I have already learned so much about myself here and truly believe that God has me here for a reason or two; not just for the beaches.
BUT enough of all that! When I’m not stressing over school and stuff, I am 100% living it up and soaking in every minute of living on this island! Kauai continues to impress me with each new place I go and each new experience I have. Since my last post I’ve been to a different beach every weekend, seen and gotten close to monk seals, been camping at beautiful Polihale beach, paddle boarded in Hanalei Bay (and got pushed too far out to sea by the wind with my friend Chloe and had to be rescued by three guys on a fishing boat – a fun story for another day), started taking a self defense/kickboxing class 4 times a week with friends, hiked the Canyon Trail to a waterfall in the middle of Waimea Canyon, been off-roading in a friend’s jeep, tried out my new snorkel gear and GoPro my parents sent me for my birthday (oh and turned 30!), hiked, swam, explored and so much more. The possibilities here are literally endless and I’m extremely thankful that God has brought me together with an awesome group of friends who are always down for an adventure.
Wanna see some pictures?! I’ve got to get better about taking them, but it’s good that I’m having so much fun that I forget to snap them right?! Here are a few to give you an idea of how much fun I’ve been having…
Headed out to surf with some friends:
Snorkeling at Lydgate Park Beach:
Taking in the westside sunset at Salt Ponds Beach:
Hiking the Canyon Trail… isn’t it gorgeous how the ocean fades right into the sky?!:
Hanging out at Secret Falls – looks like I only have one arm but it’s a thumbs up:
It took every ounce of self-control I had not to bear hug these guys. So stinking cute:
Camping with friends at Polihale and spreading the ALOHA:
I genuinely am loving my life here but I definitely miss everyone back home. Guess I’ll just have to stay keeping myself busy! 🙂 Thank you all so much for keeping up! Until next post…
